  • BMI Calculator

The term BMI stands for Body Mass Index. BMI is the standard used by researchers to define a person's weight according to their height. An adult with a Body Mass Index of 30 or more is considered obese.

To calculate your Body Mass Index, enter your height, weight and age into the designated spaces below and hit "Find My BMI". The calculator will then configure and display your Body Mass Index.

Listed below the calculator, you will find information on what the BMI number tells researchers and physicians about your weight.

    More Body Mass Index Information

If your BMI is between 17 to 22, your life expectancy is longer than the average person. With a BMI of 17 to 22 you do not need to lose weight.

If you have a BMI of 23 to 25, you are not considered overweight by the medical community, or by most people in general. However, many women may feel they could stand to lose a few pounds with a BMI of 23-25, but that is usually due to personal opinion and the fact is that you are not considered to be overweight.

If your Body Mass Index is 26 or higher, than you are considered to be overweight. However, if your BMI is 30 or above, you would be considered obese by medical standards.

It is important to note that being overweight may or may not be due to increases in body fat. It may also be due to an increase in lean muscle.

For example, a professional football player may be very lean and muscular, with very little body fat, yet they could weigh more than others of the same height who are not as fit. While they may qualify as "overweight" due to their large muscle mass, they are not necessarily "over fat", regardless of their Body Mass Index.
