General Weight Loss Books
Here you'll find reviews of books related to weight loss and dieting in general. From diets to lifestyles to "programs", we have tried to review some of the books most talked about and most asked about by people trying to lose weight
Body for Life: 12 Weeks to Mental and Physical Strength
By Bill Phillips, Michael D'Orso (Contributor)
Bill Phillips has excellent communication and motivational skills that allow him to build a simple program that most people can follow very easily. However, he does promote some of his products from his company frequently throughout the book in a manner the felt to us like marketing. That aside, both the diet and exercise programs can return positive results if done with dedication.
Diets Don't Work: Stop Dieting Become Naturally Thin Live a Diet-Free Life
By Bob, Dr Schwartz
This book was a great read. It delves into the reasons behind weight gain and teaches you how to change your lifestyle to lose weight effectively and permanently. This book will force you take an honest look at yourself and the real reasons for your overweight. The workbook portion forces you to do an honest assessment of your eating lifestyle. No fad diets or exercises here - just good common sense.
Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution
By Robert C. Atkins
Dubbed a fad diet by many, we listed this book only because of the many people we know who have interest in the program. While we have seen many followers boast success with the program, what you often don't see is those same success stories a few months down the line. Many people find the diet too restrictive. It also needs to be followed religiously in order to work. Our opinion is that you should consult your doctor before attempting this one.
The Metabolic Typing Diet: Customize Your Diet to Your Own Unique Body Chemistry
By William Linz Wolcott, Trish Fahey
Wolcott believes that tailoring your diet to your body's particular quirks--metabolic typing--will improve digestion, circulation, immunity, energy, and mood. Depending on your answers to a 65-question test, you label yourself as being in one of three categories and then follow a diet plan for your category. We found this book to be a good read and feel it contains some information useful to dieters, even if they aren't willing to follow the outlined diet plan for their type.
It's Not About Food: Change Your Mind; Change Your Life; End Your Obsession With Food and Weight
By Carol Emery Normandi, Laurelee Roark
While not quite able to qualify as a "diet book", this book centers on teaching women to eat naturally and normally and how to lose weight and keep it off by having a better self image. Eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full seems to be the motto of this book. We like that it was written by two women who struggled with weight loss personally. This book comes from experience and not from a textbook. We found it to be a good read, but definitely geared specifically at women.
